What happened
Records from Trump's former accounting firm Mazars, published by Democratic staff of the House Oversight Committee on January 4, 2024, show that officials of Kazakhstan's government spent $23,772 at the Trump International Hotel in Washington. National Economy Minister Timur Suleimenov, National Bank governor Daniyar Akishev and other officials stayed there from October 11, 2017, around the World Bank annual meetings, and central bank officials returned in April 2018. Executives of the state-owned Baiterek holding and of the Kazakhstan Housing Company stayed in late May 2018. Trump received President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the White House on January 16, 2018. The staff report said Trump never sought the consent of Congress for foreign government payments. Eric Trump called the report's narrative "insane" and said the company could not stop bookings made through third parties.
