What happened

The New York Times reported on March 30, 2023 that a Qatari entity had invested a sum similar to the more than $200 million that an Emirati fund placed with Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners, citing two people with knowledge of the deal; the Times said the identity of the Qatari investor was unclear. In September 2024 the Times reported that the firm's money included investments from the sovereign wealth funds of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. A spokesman for the Qatari embassy declined to comment. The Times had earlier reported that Qatari officials feared unfavorable treatment if they turned Kushner down and Trump returned to power. During the final days of the Trump presidency Kushner took part in talks that helped lift the blockade of Qatar by its neighbors, which Trump had backed when it began in 2017. The date of the investment was not reported.
