Told the UN Security Council that China was interfering in the 2018 midterms
“Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election coming up in November against my administration. They do not want me—or us—to win because I am the first President ever to challenge China on trade.”

What the record showed
Asked at a news conference the same day what evidence he had, Trump said, "We have evidence. We have evidence. It will come out," and said of Xi Jinping, "He may not be a friend of mine anymore." FactCheck.org rated the claim "No Evidence," reporting that Trump offered no evidence of covert action and instead pointed to Chinese tariffs aimed at farmers and a four-page advertising supplement bought by the state-run China Daily in the Des Moines Register. The White House press office did not answer FactCheck.org's questions about the accusation.
