'No other President would do this' on drug prices

“A "Favored Nations Clause" against Big Pharma, which I signed last week, means that the USA gets a price on Prescription Drugs that matches the price of the Country that pays the lowest price anywhere in the World. 50%, 60%, maybe 70% reduction. No other President would do this!”

What happened

He repeated the framing on July 28, 2020 ("What I have done will lead to a 50% REDUCTION in prices, at least... No other President would....") and at the RNC in Charlotte on Aug. 24, 2020 ("your numbers are gonna come down 60, 70%... nobody but me would ever do it"). The Most Favored Nation rule was not published until Nov. 27, 2020, as an interim final rule; a federal court issued a nationwide preliminary injunction on Dec. 28, 2020, before its Jan. 1, 2021 start date, and the model never took effect. CMS formally rescinded it on Dec. 27, 2021.
