What the record showed
His signature construction project was the border wall. By January 2021, 458 miles had been built, of which 373 miles replaced existing barriers and 52 miles were new primary wall where none stood before. Former CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske said in 2020 the barrier cost "multi-millions of dollars" per mile plus maintenance and that "the money is much better invested in technology than barriers."
