The Washington Post's Philip Bump catalogued the claim the same day alongside more than a dozen other subjects on which Trump had declared himself the foremost expert. Former CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske said in 2020 that "the money is much better invested in technology than barriers." By January 2021, 52 miles of new primary wall had been built where none existed before.
