What happened
The memo directed the attorney general to list jurisdictions that 'have refused to undertake reasonable measures to counteract these criminal activities (anarchist jurisdictions)' and told agencies to review their federal funding. It also said Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser 'allowed rioters and anarchists to engage in violence and destruction.' On Sept. 21, 2020 the Justice Department named New York City, Portland and Seattle. Gov. Jay Inslee called it 'baseless, petty and divisive'; Wheeler called it 'dangerous, destructive and divisive.'
