In his words

Called John Lewis's Atlanta district 'in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested)'

“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk - no action or results. Sad!”

What happened

The president-elect posted the two-part tweet the morning after Lewis, a civil rights leader, told NBC News he did not view Trump as a legitimate president. Later that day he tweeted again about 'burning and crime infested' inner cities. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed called Lewis 'an American hero & a national treasure,' and Georgia Democrats asked Trump to apologize. AP reported the 'crime infested' claim was hard to prove, though the district's crime and poverty rates were above the national average.
