Told the National Association of Black Journalists that Kamala Harris 'happened to turn Black' a few years ago
“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black.”

What happened
Harris, whose mother was from India and father from Jamaica, attended historically Black Howard University. She called the remarks 'the same old show' of 'divisiveness and disrespect.' White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called them 'repulsive.' Asked about it at the September 10, 2024 debate, Trump said, 'I read where she was not Black... And then I read that she was Black, and that's OK.'
