What happened
On March 11, 2025, Ukraine accepted a U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire covering the entire front line. After Trump and Putin spoke on March 18, the Kremlin said Putin had agreed to halt strikes on energy infrastructure for 30 days, and said he had insisted on an end to foreign military aid and intelligence sharing for Ukraine. Trump told Fox News that aid "was never discussed." The White House readout said negotiations on a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea and a full ceasefire would begin immediately, and described "enormous economic deals" with Russia once peace was achieved. Before the call Trump had said the talks would involve "dividing up certain assets," including land and power plants. Zelensky said Ukraine needed more details and needed to be involved.
