On June 10, 2021, six days before President Biden's June 16 summit with Vladimir Putin in Geneva, Trump issued a statement praising his own 2018 Helsinki summit as 'a great and very productive meeting' and saying the United States 'won much, including the respect of President Putin and Russia.' He revisited the Helsinki question of whether he trusted Russia or U.S. intelligence agencies on 2016 election interference, called the Obama-era officials 'lowlifes' and said the answer 'should be obvious.' The Guardian reported that Trump 'repeated that he had more faith in Putin than in US intelligence.' Biden went into the Geneva meeting saying the United States would 'respond in a robust and meaningful way' if Russia engaged in harmful activities.
