Accused China of an 'economic assault' and of stealing government secrets by cyberattack

What the record showed
In April 2018 the Commerce Department barred U.S. suppliers from doing business with Chinese telecom company ZTE over sanctions violations. On May 13, 2018 he tweeted that he and Xi Jinping were 'working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast,' and the ban was lifted on July 13, 2018 after ZTE paid a $1 billion penalty and put $400 million in escrow.
