Called China's halt in U.S. soybean purchases an "Economically Hostile Act"
“I believe that China purposefully not buying our Soybeans, and causing difficulty for our Soybean Farmers, is an Economically Hostile Act. We are considering terminating business with China having to do with Cooking Oil, and other elements of Trade, as retribution.”

What the record showed
Under the Busan deal, the White House said on November 1, 2025 that China would buy at least 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans in the last two months of 2025 and at least 25 million tons in each of 2026, 2027 and 2028. Reuters reported on January 20, 2026 that China had bought about 12 million tons, against a deadline U.S. officials by then described as the end of February; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, "They did everything they said they were going to do." On February 4, 2026 Trump said China was considering raising its current-season purchases to 20 million tons. At the May 2026 Beijing summit China committed to buy at least $17 billion a year of other U.S. agricultural products through 2028.
