PolitiFact's August 2023 review of U.S. Customs and Border Protection data found the Trump administration built 458 miles of primary and secondary barrier, of which 52 miles were new primary barrier where none existed before; 351 miles of primary and 22 miles of secondary barrier replaced smaller, dilapidated barriers. PolitiFact rated his "nearly 500 miles" claim Half True, noting the amount of new wall was about ten times smaller than his count.
