What happened

In the same speech he said of the vaccine, "Nobody else would have done that." PolitiFact reported that Pfizer did not take federal research money through Operation Warp Speed ("The U.S. government did not fund the companies' research and development"); the government signed a purchase agreement, and Pfizer's CEO said he wanted "to liberate our scientists from any bureaucracy." Moderna did receive up to $955 million in federal development funding. On January 20, 2021, the day he left office, 4,383 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the U.S., with the country averaging just under 3,100 deaths a day.
