He had told President Zelenskyy on February 28, 2025, 'My whole life is deals. I know pretty good.' The Alaska summit with Putin on August 15, 2025 ended without an agreement ('There's no deal until there's a deal'). On October 13, 2025 he attended a signing ceremony in Egypt for a Gaza ceasefire, declaring 'the end of an age of terror and death.'
