What the record showed
On May 22, 2026 he said Congress was "on the cusp of passing the most important piece of housing legislation in a generation" and that he supported the House-passed bill. On June 24, 2026, asked whether he would veto the housing bill, he said "I'm not signing the housing bill. I want to see what happens with SAVE," and repeated: "I know housing better than anybody maybe anywhere. It's all about the interest rate."
