What the record showed
The remark came while he described how he would defeat ISIS; when O'Reilly asked whether that meant sending U.S. ground troops into Syria, he answered, "I'm not telling you anything." He was exempted from the Vietnam-era draft on a claim of bone spurs in his heels. By the end of 2018, several retired four-star generals had broken with him: Jim Mattis resigned as defense secretary, Stanley McChrystal said he would never work for him, and Jack Keane called the Syria pullout a "serious strategic mistake."
