What happened

Matthews pressed Trump on whether women should be punished if abortion were illegal. Trump said yes and added, 'I have not determined what the punishment' would be. Anti-abortion groups criticized the remark. That afternoon his campaign put out two statements. The second said doctors who perform abortions, not women, would be held responsible, and both said his 'position has not changed.' On Fox News Sunday on April 3 he said the question had been a hypothetical and that 'it's the doctor's fault or whoever performs the act.'
