What happened
Two National Guard members were shot near the White House that day; DHS identified the suspect as an Afghan national who had entered under a Biden-era resettlement program. In the address Trump said the government must re-examine every Afghan who entered under Biden. At a December 9, 2025 rally he listed Afghanistan among 'hellholes' covered by a 'permanent pause on Third World migration.'
