In the same answer Trump said heroin 'pours across our southern border' and was 'poisoning the blood of their youth,' an earlier use of language he later applied to immigrants themselves. He returned to 'bad hombres' at 2018 rallies about the migrant caravan. At a September 27, 2019, Hispanic Heritage Month reception, after an audience member called out the phrase, he said, 'I used that word once, and nobody has let me forget it.'
