What happened
Curiel, born in East Chicago, Indiana, to parents who came from Mexico, was presiding over fraud lawsuits against Trump University. Trump repeated the point in other interviews that week, saying 'this judge is of Mexican heritage.' On June 7, 2016, House Speaker Paul Ryan called it 'the textbook definition of a racist comment,' according to AP. Trump did not retract it. In November 2016 he agreed to a $25 million settlement of the Trump University cases.
