Said of Somalis 'I don't want them in our country' and called Ilhan Omar and her friends 'garbage'
“I don't want them in our country, I'll be honest with you, OK? Somebody would say, oh, that's not politically correct. I don't care. I don't want them in our country. Their country is no good for a reason. Their country stinks and we don't want them in our country.”

What happened
Trump made the remarks near the end of a long Cabinet meeting. He called Somalia 'barely a country' where people 'just run around killing each other' and said Somalis 'contribute nothing.' He added, 'we're going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country' and 'Ilhan Omar is garbage, she's garbage. Her friends are garbage.' AP noted he drew no distinction between citizens and noncitizens. The remarks came days after the administration halted asylum decisions following the November 26 National Guard shooting, whose suspect was Afghan, not Somali.
