In his words

“You were here long before any of us were here, although we have a representative in Congress who, they say, was here a long time ago. They call her "Pocahontas."”

What happened

Trump made the remark while standing beside three Navajo veterans of World War II. The Navajo Nation's president said the prejudice Native Americans face is an unfortunate historical legacy, and the National Congress of American Indians said the slur overshadowed the ceremony. Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said a racial slur 'was certainly not the president's intent.' Trump kept using the nickname, and on February 10, 2025, in the Oval Office, he said of Warren: 'She's a fake... She's a nasty woman. She's a really nasty woman despite her phony beer commercial.'
