What happened
On November 21, 2019 Fiona Hill, a former Russia adviser on the National Security Council, testified in the House impeachment inquiry that the idea that Ukraine rather than Russia interfered in the 2016 election was "a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves." Trump repeated the claim on Fox & Friends the next morning. CrowdStrike is a California-based security firm that investigated the 2016 hack of the Democratic National Committee and traced it to two groups connected to a Russian intelligence service, PBS reported, and its co-founder Dmitri Alperovitch is a Russian-born U.S. citizen. Trump had raised CrowdStrike and the server with Ukraine's president on their July 25, 2019 call. PBS reported that the theory had been discredited by intelligence agencies and by Trump's own advisers.
