What happened
At a July 29, 2023 rally in Erie, Trump said Joe Biden was 'compromised' by his family's dealings in Ukraine and called on Congress to refuse further shipments of weapons to Ukraine until the FBI, Justice Department and IRS handed over evidence about the Biden family to congressional investigators. The Washington Post reported that he said Republican lawmakers who did not join the effort should face primary challenges, and noted that the demand echoed the conduct at issue in his 2019 impeachment, when he withheld military aid from Ukraine while pressing its president to announce an investigation of Biden. Congress continued to fund Ukraine assistance; a new $61 billion package was delayed for months in the House but passed in April 2024.
