Invited Putin to Washington three days after Helsinki, then postponed the visit

What happened
On July 19, 2018, press secretary Sarah Sanders announced that Trump had asked national security adviser John Bolton to invite Putin to Washington in the fall and that discussions were under way. CBS News reported that Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats learned of the invitation on stage at a security conference in Aspen and responded, 'Say that again?' Many members of Congress objected to a second meeting. On July 25, Bolton said the meeting would be put off until 'after the first of the year' because Trump believed it should take place 'after the Russia witch hunt is over'. Bolton renewed the invitation for 2019 in October 2018.
