Disagreed 'very vehemently' with Ukraine firing U.S. missiles into Russia; the Kremlin said it was impressed
“I disagree very vehemently with sending missiles hundreds of miles into Russia. Why are we doing that? We're just escalating this war and making it worse. That should not have been allowed to be done.”

What happened
In November 2024 President Biden lifted the ban on Ukraine using U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles for strikes deep inside Russia. In his TIME interview, published December 12, Trump said he disagreed 'very vehemently' with the decision and that it 'should not have been allowed to be done.' Asked whether he would abandon Ukraine, he said 'the only way you're going to reach an agreement is not to abandon.' The next day Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Trump's criticism of the Ukrainian strikes 'impresses us,' as Russia launched a large missile and drone attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The Guardian wrote that 'the alignment on the strikes between Trump and the Kremlin will cause alarm in Ukraine.'
