What happened
The post followed a Mar-a-Lago dinner with Trudeau amid Trump's threat of 25 percent tariffs. Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller said 'It sounds like we're living in an episode of South Park,' The Globe and Mail reported. On January 6, 2025, after Trudeau announced his resignation, Trump posted 'Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State,' and on January 9, 2025 he said, 'I called him Governor Trudeau because they should be the 51st state really.' He kept repeating both lines in 2025 interviews (Time, April 25; NBC, May 4).
