What happened
DOGE never came close. Its 'Wall of Receipts' claimed $110 billion, later $215 billion when the effort wound down; a government watchdog report in August 2026 found the figures rested on estimates that were wrong or unsupported, and third-party analysis could verify only about $35 billion. The promised offshoot of '$5,000 DOGE dividend' checks funded by the savings never happened either.
