What happened
The August 24, 2020 midnight deadline passed with no deal and no order, and the White House would not say whether it would proceed. A replacement order was issued on September 13, 2020 that merely directed HHS to develop a rulemaking plan. The resulting interim final rule was blocked by federal courts in December 2020 and later withdrawn.
