What happened
Job creation slowed sharply. Reuters data cited by Senate Democrats showed average monthly job gains falling roughly two-thirds, from about 168,000 a month in Biden's final year to about 49,000 a month in Trump's first year, with manufacturing shedding 108,000 jobs. Consumer confidence fell for five consecutive months after the April 2025 tariffs, and a WSJ poll showed a 15-point gap in negative economy ratings.
