Called Huawei "very dangerous" and said it could be part of a trade deal
“Huawei is something that's very dangerous. You look at what they've done from a security standpoint, from a military standpoint. It's very dangerous. So it's possible that Huawei even would be included in some kind of a trade deal.”

What the record showed
The Commerce Department had added Huawei and 68 affiliates to its Entity List on May 16, 2019, then issued a temporary general license effective May 20 allowing certain transactions to continue. On June 29, 2019, after meeting Xi Jinping, Trump tweeted that "at the request of our High Tech companies, and President Xi, I agreed to allow Chinese company Huawei to buy product from them which will not impact our National Security." In August 2019 the temporary license was extended through November 18, 2019. A year before the remark, on May 13, 2018, Trump had tweeted that he and Xi were working to get the Chinese phone maker ZTE "a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost."
