What happened
He made the same exclusivity claim about the economy repeatedly, including at a May 27, 2016 San Diego rally ("what I'll do for the economy, nobody else can do") and on Nov. 8, 2019 ("we've created the greatest economy in the history of our country... nobody else could have done it"). He promised 4-6% annual growth; according to FactCheck.org's compilation of his final numbers, annual real GDP growth never exceeded 3% during his term and the economy contracted in 2020. The U.S. ended his term with a net loss of 2.7 million jobs and federal debt up 50%, from $14.4 trillion to $21.6 trillion.
