What happened
He repeated it throughout the primary: on Hannity, July 15, 2015 ("I want to save Social Security without the cuts. I'm the only one that can do it"); at the Feb. 13, 2016 CBS debate ("I'm the only one who is going to save Social Security, believe me"); on Fox & Friends, March 11, 2016; and at a June 2, 2016 San Jose rally. In office he enacted no Social Security legislation; his 2017 and 2018 budgets proposed cuts to disability programs that Congress rejected, and PolitiFact rated the no-cuts pledge 'Promise Kept' in July 2020 on that basis. The program's long-term funding shortfall was left unaddressed.
