What happened
The question noted Erdogan had called Netanyahu Hitler and compared Israel to the Nazis. Six weeks earlier Turkey was preparing a brigade of at least 2,000 soldiers for the Gaza stabilization force, and Netanyahu's government flatly rejected it, with an Israeli spokesperson saying "There will be no Turkish boots on the ground"; Secretary Rubio met Turkey's foreign minister with no U.S. decision announced. Phase two of the Gaza plan the force was meant to support was deadlocked as of May 2026, and Hamas dissolved its civil administration on July 6, 2026.
