What happened
Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said payments would start around mid-2026, then pushed it to later in 2026. Ten months on, ABC News reported on September 10, 2026 that no checks had gone out. It would require legislation Congress has not moved, economists put the cost near $450 billion, and after the Supreme Court struck down the tariffs in February 2026 the administration paid out roughly $100 billion in refunds to businesses instead. Prediction markets put the odds of a 2026 dividend at 3%.
